We exist to be the light of Christ in the darkest places, bringing hope, purpose, and transformation to those who need it most.

We walk alongside children, youth, families, and communities, creating inclusive spaces where everyone is valued and empowered to overcome adversity, grow, and experience the love of Christ in a tangible way.

We exist to be a shade of refuge, a light of Christ.

MEET OUR FOUNDERS

Where our story began. . .

Akram and Nicole Katongole met in 2020 in western Uganda, united by a shared love for Jesus Christ and a passion to serve underserved communities.

After years of ministering in the village where they lived, one defining question emerged:

“What would happen if underserved communities were empowered to overcome the challenges they face and given the opportunity to experience the love of Christ in tangible ways?”

From this vision, Africa Shades of Light was born.

Rooted in relationship and collaboration, Africa Shades of Light partners with local churches, leaders, and families to create inclusive opportunities for children, youth, and communities to grow, overcome adversity, and thrive in their God-given potential.

By working within communities rather than imposing outside solutions, the organization fosters dignity, ownership, and lasting generational impact.
